The weekend is enjoyed by all that participate and relies by large part on volunteers and people willing to spare time to provide a relatively inexpensive weekend for the kids of the two clubs; however the benefits are priceless. Broadening social horizons is only one of the many profits that come from the exchange! Everyone has a fantastic time and cant wait for the following Easter to come around. Some of the children that went on the first trip, now have their own children taking part in the weekend! Lifelong friendships have been made, with people having been friends for over 20 years, having grown together and taken the rough with the smooth. The extended family of the two clubs has seen births, deaths, weddings and new friendships being forged every year; the family never stops growing.
Young and old enjoy countless benefits from new experiences and exposure to other cultures; trying new cuisines, learning new languages and most of all having a great time with their old and new friends while they do it.
But what can you bring? And what can you gain from the experience? If you or your family are interested in joining the exchange and coming to Bochum and enjoying an inexpensive and friendly weekend contact your team manager who will be able to give you more information about the kind of things on the itinerary, or contact Brian on 07772746956.
In friendship.....
In 1989 Wisewood JFC began it’s friendship with DJK Adler Riemke; these dark days before the internet, led Felix May long standing member of Adler Riemke to contact Sheffield City Council's International Relations Department (a distant memory in today's town hall) to seek out a social and cultural exchange with an English junior football club. The founding members of the fledgling Wisewood responded to the advert and the rest is history. The success of what began over twenty years ago can be seen today in the enthusiasm and memories that people who have been involved hold, and the excitement to make more!
The weekend involves all ages and everyone can take something away with them that will stay with them forever! The weekend is based around the football tournament on the Saturday morning; as the families are tied by their interest in football the weekend evolves from there. The programme includes trips to local professional football clubs, swimming, ice skating, visits to local attractions etc. The programme also caters for the adults who accompany the children and gives lots of late nights and stories to be told the next day. The visiting children stay with unpaid volunteers from the hosting club. The guest families usually host two children and have children of their own associated with the club.
